Eurasian Patent
A Eurasian patent provides centralized protection for inventions across the member states of the Eurasian Patent Convention through a single application filed with the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO). Currently, Eurasian patents may take effect in the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
The patent protects technical solutions that are new, involve an inventive step, and are industrially applicable. After grant, the Eurasian patent may be maintained individually in selected member states, allowing applicants to optimize costs by choosing only jurisdictions of commercial interest.
A Eurasian patent application requires a description of the invention, claims, abstract, drawings (if applicable), and applicant and inventor details. Priority documents may be submitted where priority is claimed. Representation by a qualified patent attorney is mandatory for foreign applicants.
The registration process typically takes 1.5 to 3 years. The maximum term of protection is 20 years from the filing date, subject to annual maintenance fees paid separately for each selected country after grant.
