Russian Trademark

A Russian trademark registration provides exclusive rights to use a sign in connection with specific goods and services within the Russian Federation. Trademark protection is essential for brand recognition and enforcement.

Registrable signs include words, logos, slogans, figurative elements, three-dimensional shapes, and combinations thereof, provided they are distinctive and lawful. In addition, non-traditional trademarks, such as sound marks, color marks, position marks, scent (olfactory) marks, and holographic marks, may be protected provided that sufficient evidence of acquired distinctiveness is submitted. Protection is granted for goods and services classified under the Nice Classification.

The application must include a clear representation of the mark, a list of goods and services in accordance with the Nice Classification, and applicant details. A power of attorney is required when filing through a local representative.

Trademark registration usually takes 6 to 10 months, provided no objections or oppositions arise. The trademark is valid for 10 years from the filing date and may be renewed indefinitely for further 10-year periods.
