Russian Patent
A Russian patent grants exclusive rights to an invention within the territory of the Russian Federation and is issued by the Russian Patent Office (Rospatent). It is a key form of protection for technical solutions intended for manufacture or commercialization in Russia.
Patentable inventions must meet the criteria of novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability. The scope of protection is defined by the claims and allows the patent holder to prevent unauthorized use of the invention by third parties.
The application includes a description, claims, abstract, drawings (if applicable), and applicant and inventor details. A power of attorney is generally required when filing through a registered patent attorney.
The examination and grant process usually takes 1 to 3 years. The patent is valid for 20 years from the filing date, subject to annual maintenance fees paid to keep the patent in force.
